Soils

The description of soils for hobbiest gardens are pretty limited acording to my mom. But here is the rule of thumb:

loam: size of silicate particles — means it doesn’t fall apart. In the middle between clay and sand.

Clay: Can bend it, sticks together tightly.

Sand: Has no stickiness, just flows through fingers.

There are other gradations and also layers to soil. Most of what we work in isn’t “soil soil” but rather a growth medium. Soil is quite complex.
